Coaching Programs

SportVelo offers two levels of coaching: SportVelo Premium Coaching, and SportVelo Ultimate Coaching. (Ultimate includes all multisport athletes.)

Both levels of coaching offer individualized, detailed training, customized for each athlete. The difference between coaching levels is the amount of communication available, feedback, evaluation, and analysis of training and racing from your coach. 

SportVelo analyzes all training metrics and races and discusses race strategy, tactics, and mental preparation with each athlete. Additionally, you will receive information on new equipment, technology, and training techniques and science, as it relates to you.

Who are SportVelo Athletes?

Coaching is Dan’s full-time occupation. His approach is specific and individualized to each athlete. He is not about mass-produced, cookie-cutter training programs. The number of athletes he coaches at one time is limited, and he is currently accepting new athletes on a case-by-case basis. He typically works with competitive, motivated, and highly disciplined individuals, who have a minimum of 8-10 hours, and typically much more, per week to devote to training and competition. Many (but not all) of these athletes have had extensive athletic backgrounds and compete at the local, regional, and national levels. He rarely works with beginning-level athletes, but there’s the occasional exception.

SportVelo strongly believes that for the coach/athlete partnership to be successful, there must be a good fit for both. Importantly, SportVelo athletes are required to keep their training logs complete and up to date. By keeping detailed logs of key values such as hours slept, stress, and fatigue levels, hours trained, and at what intensity, Dan can provide an individualized, focused, and fluid coaching program to SportVelo athletes.

SportVelo Coaching Programs provide the following:
• Personal coaching provided by Coach Dan
• Detailed individualized training plans, monitoring of training logs, and communication through web-based program TrainingPeaks
• Text, e-mail, and phone communications
• Establishment of training levels and intensities with an evaluation of threshold field test (all sports). Ongoing monitoring and modification of levels as athletes progress.
• Detailed monitoring, evaluation, and analysis of cycling power files from training and competition using tools such as WKO5 Training and Analysis software *
• Race strategy and tactical development
• Evaluation and assessment of functional strength and flexibility
• Consultations on equipment, components, and supplies
• Analysis of past training and racing
• Analysis of training progress and race results
• Materials: training, news, updates, and nutrition information

Getting Started

Coaching with SportVelo begins with a comprehensive athlete interview with the coach to discuss training and racing history and experience, specific training and physiological issues, goals, and coach/athlete relationship. Once completed, the athlete is evaluated in their chosen sport, a functional assessment, plus baseline skills analysis for cycling, running, and/or swimming is established. This thorough introduction, mandatory for all SportVelo athletes, jump-starts your individualized coaching program. As a SportVelo athlete, your training initial schedule is created shortly after you complete the introduction package (interview, sports assessment, field tests).

Monitoring your Training

SportVelo uses all tools available, both objective and subjective, to evaluate your training load and your response to that training load, for example, with tested-tried-and-true tools such as heart rate monitors and power meters. Also, Coach Dan has developed a proprietary—yet simple and effective—a qualitative tool to assess your readiness and recovery.
